Thursday, July 30, 2009, AutomotiveWorld.com
Iran Heavy Diesel Engine (DESA) is working on a new V12 dual-fuel engine.
According to IRNA, the 1,072hp (800kW) engine operates on a mix of 80%
natural gas and 20% diesel.
The Iranian engine supplier, based in the city of Amol in the province
of Mazandaran, is owned by the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization
of Iran (IDRO). It was established just four years ago to design and produce
medium diesel engines for automotive, industrial and power generation applications.
It unveiled its first pure diesel engine, Model D87, on 24 July. The upcoming
dual-fuel variant will be based on the D87 family, currently composed of
four engines with power ratings from 671hp to 1,676hp. DESA plans to expand
the range to 16 and 20 cylinders, with power outputs of up to 2,682hp.
